Location and postal code describe the database estimate, not your home or device. The clock uses that location’s time zone and your device’s clock. Why can the location be wrong?

Open toolYour IP address, explained.
An IP address helps networks deliver data to the right destination. Your public IP identifies the connection that websites see, which may be your internet provider, mobile network or VPN. The address above is detected when you load this page.
Why would I need to know my IP?
Your public IP can help you troubleshoot a connection, provide information to technical support or configure an access allowlist. You can also compare the address before and after connecting a VPN. An IP lookup estimates a location; it does not identify the person using a connection.
Can I hide my IP address?
Yes. A VPN routes your connection through a VPN server, so websites usually see its IP address instead of your home IP. This can help keep your home IP out of website logs, reduce location information revealed by that address and encrypt traffic between your device and the VPN server when using shared Wi-Fi.
A VPN does not make you anonymous: signed-in accounts and cookies can still identify you, and you are placing trust in the VPN provider. HTTPS still matters. Explore our VPN guide and compare providers.
Look up an IP location, inspect DNS records, check a port or read a TLS certificate. Each tool explains where its check runs, so a server-side result is not mistaken for a measurement from your device.
Frequently asked questions
What is my IP address used for?
IP addresses let devices send and receive data across networks. Websites see the public address used by your connection, while devices inside your home usually have separate private addresses.
What is the difference between public and private IP addresses?
A public IP is used on the internet. A private IP is used inside a local network, such as your home Wi-Fi. Your router can let several devices share a public IPv4 address. This page shows the public address used to reach our site, not your local Wi-Fi address.
What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?
IPv4 uses addresses such as 192.0.2.1. IPv6 uses longer addresses such as 2001:db8::1 and provides a much larger address space. Your connection may support either or both. This page shows the address used for this request, not a complete test of IPv6 support.
Can I change my IP address?
Your internet provider controls the public address assigned to your connection. A dynamic address may change, but restarting your device or router does not guarantee a new one. Switching networks or connecting a VPN can change the address that websites see.
Is my IP address private information?
Services you connect to normally receive your public IP. It can reveal an approximate location and network, but it does not by itself show your name or exact street address. Avoid sharing connection details unnecessarily.
Can an IP address reveal my exact location?
No. IP location databases estimate a region or city and can be inaccurate, particularly for mobile networks, proxies and VPNs. IP geolocation is not the same as GPS or browser location permission.
Does a VPN hide my IP address?
Websites usually see the VPN server’s address for traffic routed through the VPN. A VPN does not make you completely anonymous: accounts, cookies and other signals can still identify you. Changing the address shown here is not a complete leak test.
Are these network tools really free?
The public browser tools are free to use without registration. Network checks have usage limits to keep the service available. API access is separate; see the API documentation for its current requirements and limits.
Are these tools run from my browser?
Text and image tools run on your device. Network checks run from our server unless stated otherwise. The speed test measures transfers between your browser and our endpoint, not the guaranteed capacity of your internet plan.
