About

Ping a public IP address or domain from our server. Check replies, round-trip time and packet loss in a short ICMP test.

What does ping measure?

Ping sends ICMP Echo probes and measures their round-trip time. This test sends up to four probes from the WhatsMyIP server, not your browser or home network.

Why does ping show no reply?

A firewall can block ICMP while allowing a website to work normally. Try a TCP port check if you need to test a specific service. Four probes are a small sample, not a long-term reliability measurement.

Ping versus traceroute

Ping checks replies from the destination. Traceroute asks intermediate routers to reveal the path. Neither test identifies the physical location of a device.

Network checks originate from the WhatsMyIP server. Only public destinations are accepted. Timeouts may reflect filtering or network conditions rather than a faulty website.

Use the result as one part of your troubleshooting. Network information can change over time.
